Final results: Nissan Tram Face - Squaw Valley USA The mythical Tram Face left untouched for now
The Nissan Tram Face in Squaw Valley USA, second stage of the Freeride World Tour, ends with the cancellation of the second day. The organizers were obliged to regretfully cancel the much awaited second day focusing on the quality of the competition and riders’ security. The mythical Tram Face is still to be conquered. After a fantastic first day of competition on the Silverado Face (Friday, February 27th), a winter storm hit the California mountains thus the second day of competition of the Tram Face cannot take place. After having admired the slopes and thinking about possible lines, the Freeride World Tour riders will leave the United States for Europe for the third stage and a new challenge: the Nissan Freeride de Tignes that will take place Monday, March 9th.

The competition results from the Silverado face are the final results for the Nissan Tram Face de Squaw Valley USA
The massive snowfall announced for Squaw Valley through the end of the week leaves no opportunity for the second day of competition to take place with ideal conditions. The first day of competition that took place Friday, February 27th on the Silverado face will be counted as the final results. The points earned for the American stage of the Freeride World Tour greatly changed the Freeride World Ranking (FWR) just before the last stages: the Nissan Freeride de Tignes (March 9th) and the Nissan Xtreme de Verbier (March 21st).
The French skier, Aurelien Ducroz, third in after taking second in the Nissan Russian Adventure in Sochi moves to the top of the Freeride World Ranking. His compatriot, Sebastien Michaud moves to third thanks to his fifth place in Squaw Valley; the Frenchmen will thus be the favorites for the Nissan Freeride de Tignes. Sverre Liliequist (SWE), winner in Russia, is now second while Reine Barkered (SWE) moves up to fourth thanks to his amazing victory in the United States. Their compatriot, Henrick Windstedt, Freeride World Champion in 2008, is just behind taking second in on the Silverado face.
For the snowboarders, Xavier de Le Rue (FRA), moves to the top of the Freeride World Ranking taking third in Squaw Valley with an amazing run. With the unfortunate injury of Cyril Neri (SUI), Xavier is now leading and hopes to be Freeride World Champion as in 2008. Jonas Emery (SUI), with an impressive run on the Silverado, will attempt to catch the Frenchmen, notably at the Nissan Xtreme de Verbier, no his home turf. Squaw Valley, and the winners of the first two tour stops Jess McMillan (USA) and Elyse Saugstad (USA).
For the women skiers, the competition for the title will be tough for Ane Enderud (NOR), new leader of the Freeride World Ranking, Marja Persson, second in Squaw Valley with an amazing run. With the unfortunate injury of Cyril Neri (SUI), Xavier is now leading and hopes to be Freeride World Champion as in 2008. Jonas Emery (SUI), with an impressive run on the Silverado, will attempt to catch the Frenchmen, notably at the Nissan Xtreme de Verbier, on his home turf.
In snowboard, Aline Bock (GER), winner in Russia and second in California, takes the lead and is on her way to her first Freeride World Champion title.
A new aspect of the tour, the four riders that lead each category have been given the ‘Golden Bib’, a point of distinction that they will wear for the next stage in Tignes.
The Nissan Sport Adventure skiers are favorites for the Freeride World Champion title 2009
Aurélien Ducroz, current leader of the Freeride World Ranking 2009 and Nissan Sports Adventure athlete
“I am really happy to lead the FWR because this is the first time that I am at the top. There are two stages left; it will be be tough but I prefer to arrive in
Europe in first place and keep my lead. I am going to try to stay consistent, to always be on the podium like I have been since the beginning of the season and of course to win. The next two faces are amazing and tough. I really like their profile and I hope to use them to make the difference.”“I am really happy to lead the FWR because this is the first time that I am at the top. There are two stages left; it will be be tough but I prefer to arrive in
Marja Persson, 2nd of the Freeride World Ranking and Nissan Sports Adventure athlete
“It is great news for me to be second of the FWR but I really want to concentrate on each event rather than think about the title. My goal is to have good results in Tignes to qualify for the final in Verbier, which is my favorite competition. I love the Bec des Rosses and I really want to win again after having won in 2007 and maybe even a Freeride World Champion title.”
Nissan Freeride de Tignes scheduled on the North Face of the Pramecou: Monday, March 9th
The next stage in Tignes, France will take place on the north face of the Pramecou as it offers the best conditions for such a superb competition. The rider from Tignes, Guerlain Chicherit, has tested the current conditions on the slope where the start is at an altitude of 3000m. More snowfall has been predicted for this week in the French Alps so the face should be perfect for the competition on Monday.
The French champion Guerlain Chicherit comes back for the Nissan Freeride de Tignes with a Wild Card
Even though he decided to stop competing, Guerlain Chicherit from Tignes finally decided to give in to the temptation to compete on the Grande Balme. ”It is a face that I know well where I know I will have fun. And it’s my home.” The Nissan Freeride de Tignes is the only competition in which the 4-time Freeride World Champion will compete in. At the base of the face, he will be impatiently awaited.
He concentrates on filming and shooting, far from the pressure of competition, is however very happy with the arrival of the Freeride World Tour. ”Thanks to this new World Tour, the sport of Freeride is more present in the media in Europe and this makes the sport evolve. The way the seeing the sport is different, with better prepared athletes, more control and less risk taking. It is a good thing.”
